Baby bunnies on the way!

So at this point, the next round of does to kindle are nearing their due date. All of them have nestboxes in place with lots of hay to keep all of those newborn babies warm in this cold cold weather. Thats not to say that all are nesting like they should be though, there seems to be a few duds in every round, but lets hope for the best.

When they have rolls on their rolls! M an' M's Peridot, another one of the M an' M Dud rabbits, who gets bred, but then never kindles is one such example. I believe she may have a little bit of fat build up around her ovaries, preventing her from getting pregnant. What do you think?

Enumclaw Show Report Delivered in the Mail

I was happy to see my show report from the Enumclaw, WA show November 12th, 2011 show up in my mail. This was the show I was unable to attend due to my incident hitting black ice. The buns however still made it to the show and did quite well. I was surprised to see 6 legs in my show report and finally be able to see how well my rabbits did.

Its a good day when....

That rabbit that has been bred several times, is a wonderful show rabbit, but has never produced, nor nested, is actually nesting in preparation for kindling. I am SO excited. Tonight M an' M's Beattle Bug decided that today was the day to start nesting in preparation for her due date next week. I am so excited at the thoughts of finally getting some babies out of her. I was very shocked to say the least when she started gathering hay in her mouth and not just munching it as normal. She was obviously trying to get my attention, as I was not going to give her any hay this evening, so she decided to start ripping up the cardboard divider between her cage and another rabbit. She typically doesn't engage in such behavior and is rather timid. But because didn't want her chewing the entire divider up, I gave her a handful of hay. Good thing I did, or I would have never known! I am also glad I had my camera out at the barn to snap a video. Here it is:

I can't wait to see if she kindles! This is the rabbit that has a WONDERFUL coat, looks beautiful, but refuses to eat anywhere besides her cage. This makes going to shows difficult, as she looses condition fast, and makes traveling and showing at ARBA Convention an almost impossibility. She is definitely one of the divas in the barn (can't forget M an' M's Queen of Cartoons, the original Diva, she wrote the book on how to be a princess, and even taught other rabbits on the way to Convention how to be Divas). Regardless, I am happy that I might be able to finally get some little Beattle Bug babies! Luckily I have bred several other does so I will have the option to foster her kits if the whole first time mommy thing doesn't work out. I will keep everyone posted on her progress! Cross your fingers! Now if only M an' M's Peridot could take a hint...LOL

Sometimes I wonder what are bunnies thinking?

You have to wonder...what do rabbits think about, and what do you think this rabbit was trying to achieve? This is one of M an' M's Under the Cover of Night's kits, who is conveniently blocking the food dish, while sitting on to of another kit in the process. This little ruby eye white kit has turned out to be quite the character. The black kit underneath, had no desire to move and just stayed, smooshed in the crock while the rew sat on him. Crazy bunnies.

Somedays, I just don't understand the bunnies, but they are cute all the same.

We also have several standard chinchilla litters growing up. Some very promising babies that I am excited to go through, as their color looks really nice without even blowing into their coats!

Still waiting on some new zealand white babies. All the does are bred, so crossing my fingers that they all kindle on the 23rd of December.

Enumclaw Show...A Show I Planned to Attend..but lets just say...things kind of came up

I have to say this was the most excitement I have had in a while.

I was on my way to a rabbit show in Enumclaw, WA morning. of November 12th, 2011. I left about 4:30am from Vancouver. Things were going great until I got up just south of Centralia exit 60 or so on I-5 North about 5:30am. It was incredibly foggy for a few miles and then cleared up to perfect visibility. I saw Emergency personal on the right side with what looked to be an accident, and within seconds after, I hit black ice. I lost control of the vehicle. I swerved to avoid the concrete median divider, but of course over corrected and crossed all three lanes and crashed the car into the hillside to the right of the highway. To say the least I was a little shocked at what had happened. The first thing did was drive the vehicle down the hillside, and ended up getting it stuck in the ditch. Little to my knowledge at the time (it was dark outside), my car actually was high centered and only two wheels were even touching the ground. I just thought it was because of my rear wheel drive that I couldn't get the vehicle out.

Anyways, so I checked all the bunnies, happy to see that they were all alive. That is all I cared about. I got out of the vehicle, and saw that another lady had just done the same thing, but was getting her friend to come tow her out. Within the 30 minutes that followed, 5 more vehicles lost control. Since EMS was still busy with the upside down vehicle south just of us, we took it upon ourselves to check in on everyone to make sure they were ok after their crashes. 2 vehicles were lucky, and were able to just drive way, others had to be towed, and people taken to the hospital. One vehicle lost control, hit another car, and then almost hit us, as we were checking in on the owner of the vehicle. It was NUTS out there, you never knew when someone was going to lose control as they passed by.

So after dealing with State Patrol and EMS (signing the waiver that I didn’t need to go to the hospital), I called AAA to come get me out of the ditch. As I was waiting for the tow truck, Deidra Idell MacKimmie stops alongside the highway, and comes to check on me and the buns. She insisted that she would take the buns to the show, as I had already paid for their entries. Without even thinking I handed them over to her as my tow truck showed up. I didn’t even think to check each bun over before sending them. I was still a little shaken up. So the awesome, super nice guy from Grants towing pulled me out the ditch, and we proceeded to look over the car to ensure that it was still in drivable condition. Sadly it was not. My radiator was leaking antifreeze, the chassis of the vehicle had been pushed back so far underneath that the fan shroud was shattered, and the fan was unable to turn, thus my car had no way to cool itself. It was not going to be able to make it to Encumclaw nor Vancouver. In addition, the fog lights were completely gone, the front hazard light shattered and not working, and the front of the vehicle was packed with mud. The tow truck was unable to tow me as I had rear wheel drive and he said that I should be placed on a flat bed. So he was nice enough to tow me off the road to exit 63 and leave me at the park and ride.

All the while I waited until 8:30am when another tow truck finally showed up. In the meantime I had called some repair places in the area, none of which were open on a Saturday (especially Veterans Day weekend). We eventually decided that it wouldn’t be until Monday for it to get looked at, and a couple days after that for it to get fixed (if it was even worth getting fixed), as it’s an older model and parts are not always in stock. So for the price of putting it in the tow yard for one day, and the impound fee, I had the vehicle towed down to Vancouver to the barn for $200. It was really the only thing I could do until Monday.

All the while, my poor little traumatized buns went to the show. Thank you Deidra MacKimme for picking them up and dropping them off on your way back. Thank you Shonna Ausbourne, Duane Ausbourne, and Tiffany Field Fields for checking them over, making sure they were ok, and getting them on the show tables. Only one little bunny ended up with a lacerated nose. Thank goodness. Still managed to get BOB Jersey Wooly at both shows, I have no idea which animal it was…LOL as it was a no comment card show. But I was happy to get the buns all back home. (Later found out M an' M's Susie Q got BOB in Show A and M an' M's Caribbean Stud Poker got BOB in Show B). I spent quite a bit of time that night giving them treats and making sure they were all ok.

Overall, everything is alive, and that is all I can ask for…even the car isn’t completely dead, as it still runs…just can’t drive it anywhere….^_^

New Stock From Convention!

Hey Everyone,

Just thought I would post some new, and exciting news since the ARBA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The convention was a lot a fun. Getting to see CW Rabbiteers along the way to Indiana helped pass the time through Wyoming, and Nebraska. Once at convention, it was a joy to be able to see all of the rabbit people I hadn't seen an a few years. From jersey wooly breeders to standard chinchilla breeders, there were so many people to meet, and greet, and hanging out with them made it all the more fun!

Due to the enormous amount of school work I came home to, for my bachelor's program, I have not had the time to download the pictures from the trip off of my digital camera. So look forward to an upcoming post with lots of great pictures from the convention trip!

Since I have a few minutes, I did want to take the time to thank a few individuals, including some great breeders who have bunnies that now reside in M an' M Rabbitry.

Convention is right around the corner....

Convention is drawing near as today was the last day to make substitutions to your convention entries. When I selected entries for convention I was quite particular, therefore I didn't need to make any substitutions today. I can't say that I didn't wish that some of the rabbits would finish up their moult, or that some would hold onto their coat just a little bit longer. We will see what happens, as convention is coming up too soon! I have plenty of bunny related things to do before then, but with 23 college credits this quarter at Eastern Washington University, things have been busy to say the least.

Anyways, just made some quick updates to the website with some of our new for sale buns. I did forget the for sale new zealands though. So if you are interested in New Zealand Whites, just contact me and I can send you pictures and information.

I also took some pictures of some of the cute up and coming juniors that are in the barn now. They are very promising little boys!

Cute Upcoming Juniors & More New M an' M Rabbitry Website Updates

Hey Everyone,

Its been pretty busy here at M an' M Rabbitry. We have several litters coming of the nestboxes and many juniors who are going to be weaned soon. Currently we have 13 litters in the barn, new zealand whites, standard chinchilla and jersey woolies and more on the way. So keep checking back for more exciting pictures of the babies. I will try and get some more pictures taken this week.

As things are gearing up for the ARBA National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana this year, M an' M Rabbitry is making some tough choices as to who is going to stay and who is going to go. Due to a lack of cage space with all of these new babies, we have some very nice stock available for sale. These animals are great foundation stock, and show animals, but we can't keep them all! So check out the M an' M Rabbitry For Sale Page to see what is available. All of the animals currently for sale can be transported to the National Convention in Indy (transportation fee applies).

With only 65 holes, and three breeds (plus a few project bunnies), we can only keep a very limited amount of up and coming stock. The For Sale Page has also been updated with all of the great quality rabbits that are currently for sale. These rabbits are available to be transported to national convention. So just because you don't live in Washington State, that doesn't mean that you can't purchase a Washington state rabbit. We have wonderful show and breeding pairs and trios available. Long time no post!

With the craziness of dental hygiene school over, I am officially able to update the website! It is a complete overhaul, and lots of new rabbits, as well as fun pictures and information. I will load the new website up to the server in a few days, once I make those last minute touches.

It has just been crazy around here!
First the snow, then the rain, then life. Ahhhhh! There has just been no time to BLOG!

So lets see where I left off...
Oh yeah, I remember, Mid December, there was hardly any kits in the barn. Well, that sure changed!

Yesterday and today was a major barn cleaning. It was long overdue due to the freezing temps, then the snow and then the rain, rain and more rain.

Anyways, the jersey wooly juniors that I chose to grow out are looking really nice. They should be in nice junior show coats for March shows.

Chins are also developing nicely. A litter out of AT8 and Popstar are growing and I can't wait for them to get in their junior coats.

By the way, I haven't mentioned the New Zelands Whites yet!

Well, they are a little side project that I am playing around with, but so far we haven't had a whole lot of sucess getting litters. 2 litters have been born, but one doe smothered hers and the other doe didn't feed hers. So hopefully February will be a better month for NZW kits.

I haven't decided to add them to the rabbitry yet. What I mean by this is I am not going to be adding the NZWs to the website or any other M an' M Rabbitry Documents (pedigrees, etc.), untill I see if they are really something that I want to devote cage space to.

Its been a good month + since the last show I have attended. It was a well worth it break to let the buns hang out for a while, and Me! But now I am ready for a show. The next show I will be attending will be in Saint Helens, OR on Jan 31st. It was an awesome turn out for woolies last year. So I can only hope that it will be the same with almost 60 animals in the breed.

Well, hopefully a little later this week, I can take some pictures of the upcoming juniors. They are looking pretty dang cute!

Rabbitry News

Well, there hasn't been a ton going on in the rabbbitry other than letting everyone chill and gain back condition after me being away for convention.

But there are a couple new developments:

1. The December 6th, CRBA Show in Mount Vernon was tons of fun. I love how relaxed and chill it is. I only entered 4 jersey woolies, no chins. So I didn't have much to show at all. Buns did ok, but most were moulting, out of flesh condition (due to convention trip), or too young to compete. So just waiting on them to develop more. The next show I plan on attending is the January 31st show in Saint Helens, OR.

2. Well, there is hardly any kits in the barn right now. 1 Litter of chins out of AT6, 5 kits, and 1 litter of woolies out of B-mac's Lady Bug 3 kits. So to have a couple does due Today, December 11th, and a few more due on the 17th is pretty exciting.

WOW, it has been a long time since I blogged. This is because of all of the craziness that took place before, during and after convention.

So I guess I need to summarize everything!

ARBA National Convention, Louisville, KY, October 26-30th, 2008 M an' M Rabbitry Open Show Results:

6th place Self SR Doe out of 53, M an' M's Tootie Fruitie

1st place Tan Pattern Senior Doe, M an' M's Queen of Cartoons

BOG Tan Pattern out of 44, M an' M's Queen of Cartoons

8th place Colored Wool out of 22, M an' M's Queen of Cartoons

13th place Standard Chinchilla SR Doe out of 25, M an' M's Zoli

Convention was a BLAST! It was absolutely crazy, but tons of fun! Shonna and I transported almost 70 animals to convention, and another 45 or some home. That was interesting to say the least. The animals did well, and lost very little condition. Even though it was a 3 day trip. Shonna drove days and I drove nights. On the way there we had planned to drive 12 hours a day, 6 hours for each of us, but the first day we only managed to do 10, as we had 3 drop off/pick up locations which took some time. We had planned to get at the convention center later Friday, but that was cut short, as we continued to get behind schedule. So on Friday we had 15+ hours to drive. Shonna and I ended up pulling and all nighter, and arrived in Louisville, KY at 8:30 am Eastern time Saturday morning. We checked into the hotel room just wanted to crash, but of course fate would not allow that to happen. As I walked along side my bed it was like wadeing though water. The carpet was soaked and the room stunk! We were so tired though, that we just went to bed and dealt with it in the morning. Luckily we were able to change rooms after we had gotten a few hours of sleep.

Once at the convention center at about 5pm Saturday, it was even crazier as everyone came and picked up their animals. Gee, it was insane! My phone was ringing off the hook for about 48 hours straight!

Sunday was another full day of animals being picked up and finishing getting animals in their coops.

Later that evening, Shonna, Alyssa and I went out to dinner with George and Jessica, some awesome chin friends of mine in Orlando, FL. It was so much fun, and they were just a pleasure to be around. They are practically family, such awesome people! It was quite sad that they had to leave early Tuesday morning and were not able to stay longer.

Finally, once most of the animals were picked up on Sunday, it was time for the show Monday. It was great getting to finally meet Brian, Daykota, George and Jessica, Mary and Molly, Sandi, Laura, Amanda and Deidra. That was the best part of convention. Finally being able to put a face to a name, and being able to hug so many friends that I have made over the years all over the nation. The judging went good. It was tons of fun being a runner for the wooly table and hanging out and talking to all the people. The chin table was a little more interesting, and I decided that I wanted to see how my woolies are doing, so I was not able to see how my chins did. Bummer!

It was a major surprise to have M an' M's Tootie Fruitie, Black Senior Doe to receive 6th place out of 53! Especially when she was just coming into senior coat, and had no density or length of coat. I was also thrilled to have M an' M's Queen of Cartoons not only place 1st in her class, but also win BEST OF GROUP Tan Pattern! I was ecstatic, especially this was only the second year I had ever entered any animals in a national convention. And to go from 6th place out of 12 Tan Pattern SR Does to BOG Tan Pattern, was a huge improvement.

ARBA National Convention 2008

Finally after the judging day, Monday, we were finally able to get some sleep.

Tuesday was a little more lax, as I cleaned convention coops, and Shonna and Alyssa cleaned carriers back at the hotel, after we went to the National Jersey Wooly Rabbit Club Specialty meeting. Best in Show was nice, the Kentucky Club could have done a little better with announcing all of the exhibitor names, thats for sure. I was excited to see that Randy Shumaker and Allen Mesick were chosen to be Group judges. Allen was a group judge for youth, and Randy was a group judge for open.

Anyways, so the next highlight of the convention trip was the Jersey Wooly Banquet. It was fun getting to hang out with the Bledsoe Family during the banquet. Here were my banquet results:

Anyways, Thursday was checkout. It was a bit chaotic to say the least, as Shonna and I had to find about 20 animals that we had sales slips for, of about 10+ different breeds. But we made it out and begun our long journey home.

Sadly, I was getting sick by Wednesday of convention, and by the day we left Kentucky, I was developing a head cold. For the next couple of days Shonna drove days, and almost the entire time that she drove I slept, and then I would wake up just in time to drive nights. Even with all of the sleeping, I kept getting sicker and sicker, and Monday after we got home, I was pretty sick.

We got home Sunday morning at about 1:30 am. Luckily Shonna's husband Duane was there to help us unload everything and sort through all the stuff.

It was a fab-u-loss trip, and was tons of fun. But the animals and I are glad to me home, and back in our routines.

Convention is Right Around the Corner

Indeed it is...Convention is coming up so quickly it just amazing!

But that isn't stopping any activities from happening around here. We plan on hitting a couple more shows before Convention, and then some after too! Bremerton on the 27th of this month will be a nice change as its been a lot of fair activity lately. Also Monore on October 4th, and Kennewick shortly after.

Shonna and I are still figuring out all the details of the convention trip, but it looks like we are going to get it all worked out. Remember we are offering transport, so let me know if you need anything to get to convention or back, or even round trip! Who knows!

Most of the buns are moulting and getting in new coats, so once that is finished it will be nice that the barn wont be so fuzzy for a while.

Also sadly this post or the next couple will most likely not have any photos in them. I accidentally dropped my digital camera on our concrete patio, and its not very happy now...So until I get a new camera...no pics!

Anyways, its pretty late and I just wanted to make a quick note that M an' M Rabbitry is going to convention with standard chinchillas and jersey woolies.

By the way, lots of animals are available right now in the wooly department. With an addition of a few that have since been weaned, a little siamese sable buck and a rew doe.

Ok, so I have a quick post today that was actually forgotten at the end of June. Yeah I know its been a few months, but I still thought that it was worthy of some recognition on the blog.

Haven't Blogged for Over a Month!

I can't believe how time has just flown by! I didn't realize that I hadn't blogged in over a month until I looked at my website and realized that I hadn't updated it since the end of MAY! Eeeeeek!

This picture was taken about 2 weeks ago, but when it finally stops raining I will take a more recent photo, as her coat is longer and more even now.

New Standard Chinchilla Stock

In the past month or so I have acquired some new standard chinchilla stock that has yet to be mentioned on the website, or on the blog. These animals are very nice quality, and I hope to get some nice animals out of them.

This little junior buck is really nice good solid type and wonderful ring definition. He is going to be a very promising animal that I hope to incorporate into the herd soon.

This little doe is very nice. She has good type, but her most notable features are her stellar ring definition and surface color. She is a very cute little doe. Once she grows up a bit more she will be incorporated into the chin breeding program.

This wonderful senior doe came from Margaret Cummings. Although she is not from Margaret's stock, the doe's sister has blended in well with her herd, so I am assuming the same will happen with mine. She has a great coat on her right now, nice ring definition and surface color. Plus very solid type. Because I wont be going to any bunny shows for over a month, I decided to breed her to Wiebensohn's Togo. That should be a very nice combo, and we will see how everything turns out.

******Update! At8 Kindled 6 healthy kits and is raising them well!

Also, in the next couple of months I plan on increasing the Standard Chinchilla herd up to 15 holes for breeding stock. Yes, I know that doesn't really seem like a whole lot, but before the addition of these three buns, I was only at 5 animals for breeding stock. So it will be a really nice treat to be able to increase the herd that much. Plus, more high quality stock will come out of M an' M Rabbitry that way.

Tons of Fun with Jersey Woolies and Standard Chinchillas

Well the monroe show was fun even though it was a bit warm for the buns. It was still a great time seeing good friends again.

In SHOW A I was amazed to find out that there were 23 standard chinchillas entered! And I had only entered 3! Liz and Margaret were both there, and it was thrilling to see all of their wonderful animals. Liz had a really cute little junior buck who has just stellar surface color! He had waves all the way up to his shoulders! It was a sight to see! It was wonderful to have classes as large as 10 junior does! Those are some firsts for standard chinchillas at a show other than Washington State Convention.

Overall, the chins did pretty good. I entered Scott's TP2 Junior Buck who placed 2 of 4, and Scott's TP3 Junior Doe who placed 3 out of 10. I also entered M an' M's Zoli, my favorite little chin girl...(she is my baby ^_^)...and she took Best Of Breed even with her never ending moult line! Cliff Dick really did like her, and I was happy about that, as I think she is a pretty nice doe too! M an' M's Zoli now has her 2nd leg. Here is a picture of Zoli before she started getting her moult line.

By the way, there were no standard chinchillas shown in the B show. Its just something weird about the chin breeders, they just don't stick around for show B. ^_^

So I had a bit of a tough time deciding to who to enter at the upcoming show in Monroe July 12th. I have a lot of nice junior jersey woolies that could be shown, and a lot of nice standard chinchilla juniors but I had to make up my mind and pick who would be the best competitors on the table. Major Cleaning!

Last week I went through the barn and really noticed that there needed to be some MAJOR cleaning! Things were getting a little too fuzzy with the recent heat waves that set everyone into fast happening moults. Thus, I called up Tawnee and we planned on today for the major clean. And so we did.

We took all the the cages out of the barn, cleaned them, washed them out, and sanitized them making them super clean! Although the barn is a total mess due to all of the moving cages around and stuff, at least the buns are clean and happy! Tomorrow's chore is to organize all of the stuff that is thrown about the barn since the BIG clean! The buns were happy to get back into their cages after being in carriers for most of the day, and they were very happy to get back their toys which had be cleaned. They had a lot of energy to burn off from being in the carriers, and new clean toys was a great way to do it.

Today was super tiring, but I am glad that it all got done. Bun entires for the Monroe show are going to be sent in tomorrow. I just have to make some last minute decisions on the standard chinchillas to see who exactly I plan on entering.

Also, in the next few days I plan on updating the website with new for sale buns and edits to the Jersey Wooly and Standard Chinchilla stock, as there are some new additions, and some animals who have left the rabbitry for other breeding programs.

Upcoming Jersey Wooly Juniors

Well, ever since that boom of standard chinchilla litters about 3 months ago there really hasn't been a whole lot of chin activity, but the jersey woolies haven't halted in their production one bit! The litters just seem to keep on coming...and the does keep on breeding.

So, due to the numerous litters at M an' M Rabbitry, there are several very promising juniors that will be good show contenders, as some of the senior stock is moulting, and older juniors wait to get their senior coats on. Here are a few of the cuties!

Sadly her dam decided to nibble on her coat a bit...so she may not be hitting the show tables for quite a while. But for the meantime, we will wait and see how she is growing before making any final decisions on this little girl.

M an' M's Psyche is looking pretty cute! Every day I look at her and things that I thought weren't that great are improving. So we will see as she matures just a bit, and then space and other deciding factors will be taken into consideration. So far things are looking pretty promising that she will stick around.

This little guy is the last of the best of this round of wooly litters. More kits coming up of course. But this little guy is super promising. It seems that M an' M Rabbitry is a little short on bucks in the wooly department at the moment, so he may stick around to fill the void of Self Stud Muffin. Of course that is when he grows up...just a tad...^_^

WA State Convention: Friends and Fun!

Now that everyone is home and is settling in again from a long and tiering weekend, I finally have time to write up a blog about Washington State Convention.

The trip went well, and the weather was very mild for Eastern Washington. We lucked out again this year with some very nice wind and pretty reasonable heat. Of course we still brought with us some fans and such to keep the buns cool after coming off the show tables.

Karli and I also got to see some of our good ol' friends again. I swear I did more chatting with friends than I did even showing and attending the rabbits for the entire weekend. But it was good fun seeing them, and also meeting several new breeders. Plus, my grand parents who live over in Soap Lake, WA came over to visit with Karli and I on Sunday, and brought us lots of good home cooked food! Thank you Grandma Janice and Grandpa Orville!

The banquet was also very nice. Between Karli and I listening to the Royalty and sweeps awards, Shonna and her husband shared some very funny stories with us. ^_^ Karli did well for her first year at the Royalty Competition and I am sure that she will do even better in 2009.

So finally I will post the show results.

For the chins. Considering that my juniors were still in baby coats and that my senior doe Zoli was moulting, I think the chins did pretty well. No legs, but they placed where I thought they would in the competition against the older, more developed juniors. I also picked up a buck and a doe from Scott, and he ended up taking M an' M's Cassidy, and M an' M's Kangaroo. So I am super excited to see how things mesh! Breedings will occur VERY soon!

For the woolies, it was quite surprising. I only entered 4. M an' M's Bebop, M an' M's Tootie Fruitie, M an' M's Zane, and M an' M's Demi (Ear Change for M an' M's Queen of Cartoons). Anyways, when we got to the show room Friday afternoon, I really didn't think my woolies would do anything. The hair was falling off of M an' M's Zane and M an' M's Tootie Fruitie's faces. M an' M's Tootie Fruitie, had also chewed off half of her coat, and M an' M's Demi was only 8 weeks old. So yeah things didn't look like M an' M Rabbitry would pull out many wins this year, but I sure was pleasantly surprised!

It was pretty surprising that Tootie Fruitie pulled out a BOB win out of about 30+ woolies. That was really nice!

Also, in youth M an' M's Fruit Loop, Blue Jr Doe took BOB for Tawnee. Congrats to both of them!

Washington State Convention is right around the corner!

Yep, time is flying by, and I can't believe that it is almost Washington State Convention already! Its just crazy.

Well, the standard chinchillas are all looking pretty good, some better than others, of the 5 I entered, most should do pretty well on the show tables this weekend.

As for the woolies, of the 4 I entered, there is really only one animal that Is really going to do well. The others are just juniors with baby coats or a senior who is just about to blow coat, and his coat is a bit discolored. But overall it should be tons of fun, and It will be great to see some good bunny friends again that I haven't seen in a while.

Today and Tomorrow I am doing quite a few breedings. So more woolies and more chins should be bred for beautiful babies to show at national convention.

Also, M an' M's Ashlind's kits are looking pretty cute, and are just to the point of starting to come out of the nestbox. This was a combination of M an' M's Ashlind X M an' M's Zane, so they should be pretty cute!

There is also some very cute woolies and chins that are almost old enough to wean, and once I return from WA State Convention, I will wean them and get pictures up on the blog and site.

Anyways, I hope all is well with everyone else's rabbitries and that you have lots of kits to choose from.

A Perfect Harmony: Jersey Wooly and Standard Chinchilla Rabbits

For some time now I have rethinking the breeds that I raise. Karli has often said that I should just sell out of the standard chinchillas and just focus on my jersey woolies. Yes, it is true that I do better with my Jersey Woolies, then I do with my Standard Chinchillas, but that is due to the lack of exhibitors in Standard Chinchillas, and the extremely rare chances for legs.

Anyways, I really do think that having both the Jersey Woolies and the Standard Chinchillas are a perfect harmony, and this is why! (I have also included some random cute pictures that haven't made it to the blog or the site yet)

Yeah, I do agree that both the Standard Chinchillas and the Jersey Woolies have their pros and their cons, just like any of the other rabbit breeds.

For one thing the chins do eat A Lot more than the woolies, and with the increase in feed costs, and my increase in production, the feed bill has gone WAY up. They also take up more room and require larger cages. Because they are a bigger rabbit and pack down more food, they poop and pee a lot more than the jersey woolies do, and cleaning their cages is usually more often, as the trays fill up much quicker. Another thing is that the Standard Chinchillas only come in one color. I have always thought that breeders who can do one breed in one variety are very disciplined. And as you can see...that definitely isn't me!

This is not to say that the woolies aren't immune from their share of pros and cons! The woolies of course are a lot more work in the grooming department. Wooly juniors typically can only be shown for a good 4 weeks, before they have to retire to the back of the barn until they get their senior coats in. The woolies also tend to make their cage's very hairy! So even though I have to clean chin trays more often, it actually takes me longer to clean the wooly cages because I have to get all that hair off! Especially when animals are moulting....Eeeeeek! The last thing that I can think of that sometimes gets on my nerves with the woolies is feeling their bodies. If an animal has a super dense coat...sometimes I just get so fed up because I just cant feel the body to know which animal to breed him or her too!

One thing that I especially like about the Standard Chinchillas is that they have a pretty long junior showing season. Once they are in coat at about 13 weeks, they stay in coat until that senior fur starts coming in. The chins are practically grooming free. Also, I love that with the chins I almost don't even have to feel their body to know what their type is...I can "see" it! And when I am fed up with trying to feel wooly bodies I just go to the chins and just look at the type and play with them. The Standard Chinchillas keep me sane.

But I must give credit the woolies as they bring me a lot of joy too! Although their coats are more work, and grooming is more often, when I get a really nicely conditioned wooly, I am very proud and it means a lot to me. Plus, the woolies come in a ton of colors, and just raising Tan Patterns, Selfs and AOVs there is plenty of room to play with colors and be surprised to see what pops out of the nestbox!

Overall, I think the Jersey Woolies provide me with that Fancy, and Fantasy elements that the Standard Chinchillas do not, but the Standard Chinchillas provide the element of Sanity, and thus it all seems to work out. In the next few months or so, I do plan on increasing my Standard Chinchilla stock, as I really do want to work on them a bit more than I have in the past 2 years. Though, that is not to say that I will be down sizing my woolies to accommodate the increase in chins. I actually plan on increasing my wooly stock as well, in order to progress my woolies a little faster by devoting more holes to breeding does. Therefore, in the next couple of months I plan on acquiring more cages to expand the herd.

Anyways, I just thought that a post was in order to explain my interesting combo of rabbit breeds that I have decided to raise.

Convention Time, OR and WA that is...

Well, its seems like yesterday, but it has almost been a week since Karli and I started our trek down to Newport, OR for a Triple Open All Breed Show at Oregon State Convention. It was a lot of fun, and the weather was really nice! Not too warm and actually sunny!

Overall the buns did pretty well. M an' M Rabbitry Rabbits nearly sweaped the Jersey Wooly Competition winning all BOB and BOS awards for all three shows except for one BOB Show B.

Karli's buns also did very well. Taking a few legs home for RIS Show A, BOB AFL Show B and BIS Youth.

Of course the Standard Chinchilla population in Oregon is virtually nothing, so no legs for the two chins that I entered, but I was very excited to have Cliff look at some of my upcoming juniors that will be seniors at National Convention this year in Kentucky.

As for M an' M' Rabbitry Wins at Oregon State Convention, here is a quick synopsis.

As for Washington State Convention, it is coming up super fast! Only hours until it is exactly a week until Karli and I leave for our trip to Ellensburg.

Most of the woolies are in breeding or moulting, but I did manage to find a few to enter.

As for the chins, well thats a whole nother story! I have 2 junior bucks and 2 junior does that are entered and 1 senior doe. I hope to take all three classes that I entered, but we will see when the time comes. These juniors just look awesome! Ring color, type, the only thing I am waiting on is surface color. Lets just hope it comes in before National Convention when they get their senior coats in!

Anyways, Hopefully Karli and I will come back with some stellar wins from Washington State Convention!

Also, in the past couple of weeks, there have been a lot of babies coming out of the nestboxes. Ooodles of babies to be exact! There are some very promising animals that will do well on summer and fall show tables, thats for sure!

When I get some time, after this quarter is over tomorrow, I plan on working on some cages, fixing the navigation menu on the blog, and taking some pics of the cute juniors!

WOW- SUPER BUSY TIME!

Well, its been almost a month since I have had time to blog, and its been over 2.5 months since I updated the M an' M Rabbitry website. So after 5 people e-mailing me to see if animals that were on my for sale page were still available I decided that I really needed to update the site.

Over the last couple of days in my little, but worthwhile free time I managed to take some pictures of new seniors, juniors and nestbox kits. Then last night I went for it and stayed up till 2:30am making the necessary updates! It took a while, but it looks great now!

As for shows. YEP, Karli and I have been attending quite a few! After Monroe, WA on May 3rd, was Astoria, OR May 10th, and then Bremerton, WA May 17th, and then Portland, OR May 24th. So non-stop showing in May!

The buns did well at all the shows, but animals that are moulting and juinors just can't compete with those lovely senior animals! Even so M an' M Rabbitry managed to pull out a couple wins.

At the WPSRCC's show in Bremerton, WA on May 17th, it was extremely hot! The buns were a little toasty, but still put their show spirits on.

At the Open A show M an' M's Melodrama got his 4th leg for BOB and in the Open B show, M an' M's Bebop got his 4th leg too!

M an' M's Queen of Cartoons also got some very good comments from Cindy Wickizer, so she is going to be sticking around for a bit longer to see how she matures.

Buns have been producing! YEA! I have a very cute little standard chinchilla buck from Hutchin's 051 X DC's Zel combo that I am keeping. M an' M's Popstar is his name! He can be seen on the Standard Chinchilla Juniors page on the website.

There are also a ton of Jersey Wooly kits in the nest boxes too! The nestbox page has all the current numbers and litters, with some pics of the older kits.

One of the most anticipated litters was M an' M's Ashlind's litter. She kindled May 29th, and had 1 Blue Otter, 1 Black and one REW. The litter was Sired by M an' M's Zane, so lets hope they are all pretty cute!

The next show on the list is Oregon State Convention, a wonderful triple show that Karli and I will be going to for the first time this coming weekend June 7th and 8th.

The other show that we will be attending in June is the Washington State Convention June 21st and 22nd. So another awesome show, that will be TONS of fun!

I hope that M an' M Rabbits do well at both state conventions, but most animals are moulting or in breeding, so some of the best animals are out of commission. Oh well, these upcoming juniors are pretty cute though!

Overall, its been a super busy time, and once college is out for the summer, June 13th, I will have tons more time to devote to the buns and showing!

A few wins at Monroe, and a few NEW additons

So the Northwest Rabbit Breeder' s show at Monroe, this weekend was a lot of fun, but super tiring.

Karli was supposed to go with me, but she got sick, and Tawnee was supposed to go with me also and she also got sick, so I went to monroe along. Not like I haven't done that before...LOL...

But because no one went with me, I ended up showing everyone's buns! In addition to having Leslie look at some of Karlis animals, I had to show her 6 fuzzies in both shows, 12 jersey woolies in both shows and then my chin in both shows. Eeeeeek...it wasn't so bad except for the fact that I had to write for all of the 3 breeds at each show! Yeah a mighty busy day I must admit. Also in addition to the showing I had to pick up both Karli's and my orders at Woody's Wabbits, and try to figure out how it was all going to fit in the vehicle!

Anyways, so it was great seeing a lot of good friends again. The wooly numbers weren't that high this time. Kendal was off showing at Silver Marten Nationals in CA, so he wasn't there and there were no youth breeders either! The only woolies that were there were the woolies that carpooled with me. Since I took a self sr doe of Alicia and Alivia's, a agouti sr buck of Tawnee's and a tan pattern sr buck of Alex's along for the ride. So at least there was enough exhibitors for Best of Breed to get a leg. There were 12 woolies each show.

Nesting, and More Nesting...a GOOD Sign!

I have been so busy lately that I just haven't had the time to clean out my nestboxes from the last litters to give to the does who are due this coming weekend. So when I did today the girls went straight to work. All 4 of the does due May 3rd and 5th, began nesting immediately. A good sign that they are all pregnant! YEA! More babies are on the way and I just can't wait!

Shows and Shipping: Both Rabbit Related

So I thought I would do a quick note in this post about future shows Karli and I plan on attending. So here is the list:

Because the buns are looking so nice I am going to be hitting a lot more shows then usual!

Anyways, now onto the second order of business in this post: SHIPPING!

Ok, so Kathleen Szwarc of Richmond Virginia expressed an interest in getting some of my jersey woolies in order to improve her stock that she is currently working on. So after many conversations back and forth we decided that the following rabbits would be the best match for what she is currently working with: M an' M's Dinky, a Sable Marten Junior Buck, M an' M's Clocky, a Blue Otter Junior Doe, M an' M's Jambi, a Black Junior Doe and Kay'z Fancy, a Pointed White-Black Senior Doe.

So in order to get the buns to her, they had to be shipped. It was a fairly easy process until I got to the airport and American Airlines said that they would not accept the carrier. They said that it had to many animals in it. There were 5 Rabbits, each in their own compartments. The most frustrating thing was that I and Kathleen had talked to the American Airlines Cargo Department specifically about the carrier and how it would all work out and followed their guidelines to a T and yet they still would not accept the carrier. Ultimately Kathleen called them in the midst of the situation and found out that each Cargo department can essentially decide what the requirements are and what carriers they will accept. So pretty much I was screwed over and they weren't going to do a thing about it. Their flight was scheduled for 7:05 am, meaning that I had to get there at 5:00 am, and leave the house at 3:00 am. So I was very angry at that point. I had drove all the way down to Sea-Tac for nothing, built a carrier for nothing, and got hardly any sleep FOR NOTHING! As much of a butt as the American Airline Cargo department was being they did try to help me out a bit, suggesting a later flight where I would have enough time to go to a store and buy 3 new cat carriers and all of this crap. One individual was nice enough to pipe up and say that Delta had a flight going out to Richmond, VA at 11:55 am and that who knows they might actually accept the carrier. So as soon as they said that I immediately left for the Delta Cargo Department.

At the Delta Cargo Department, I looked around forever until I found a door that I was allowed in...Their front door was locked for some reason...weird...anyways, I went in and told the attendant my situation and described the carrier to her. She was pretty hesitant in saying that it probably wouldn't pass the guidelines, but that she could have her supervisor come in and check it out. So I ran back to the car grabbed the carrier and crossed my fingers! The supervisor came out and immediately said "Yep, we'll take it". I was so relieved. So I spent the next hour filling out paper work and making the reservation and finally the buns were all set to go to fly to Virginia.

It was a bit of work getting them there, but Kathleen and her family love them and I wish them the best of luck on the show tables with them!

EZ Tatt Fun

Yep, so I decided to finally get a battery operated tattooer to see what they were all about. So far it has been really nice. I love how I can control the size of the lettering, and make an easy change between the woolies and the chinchillas. In the guide it says to practice on a banana, which was kind of fun I must admit. LOL

Anyways, its a great tattooer, its just you either need to get one of those bunny wraps or have someone hold the animal for you, since the buns don't exactly seem to like it that much. It takes a bit longer to do each tattoo, but I am satisfied with the results.

The Monroe show is sneaking up on me very fast and I need to do some typically wooly grooming before this weekend. But I can't wait to show some of my lovely buns! + I have a lot of animals available right now. I really need to move them on so that I can have room for upcoming juniors and weaning litters.

Super Busy with Bunny Chores and Barn Cleaning

Well, its been quite a while since my last blog post. There have been a few things that occurred over the past week and once I get pics I will post a blog about them. For the most part I have been trying to do a lot of bun cleaning and also barn organizing! The barn is currently a disaster as I have been going through stuff and sorting it. It is hard to walk there is so much stuff on the floor from my sorting!

The wooly juniors and chin juniors are growing up. They are looking cuter and cuter by the day. The ring color on Hutchin's 051 X DC's Zel's kits looks super promising. I actually have never seen such young kits, about 3 weeks old with such a rich base color! They are going to be really nice. I plan on typing DC's DC2 X DC's Zel litter tomorrow and sex them to see what all came out, but I can't wait to get them on the show tables later in may.

Karli Zwade took BOB with L&R's Cameron. She also took BOSV and BOV wins, many 1st places and second places of about 40+ AFLs in youth. Karli keep up the good work and make Leslie, Jodie, Brian, Candy and I proud!

Jersey Wooly and Standard Chinchilla Litters + Yakima

Wow, with me starting school back up I haven't had a ton of time to play "bunnies". I can't Believe how adorable these current litters of Jersey Woolies and Standard Chinchillas are turning out to be!
I just got the M an' M's Ashlind and WWR's Peewee kits back from Karli and their Foster mom Dora. My are they cute...heres some pics.

Anyways, the buns are doing better and gaining condition after the feed crisis.

As for the Yakima show...well that was a bit of a bust. None of my buns ended up going even though 6 were entered in both A and B shows. Oh well. Alicia Kennemer was planning on taking them down, but her husband's flight got delayed and she had to stay home with her kids. Things happen. But its not like I could have taken them down, since I was helping out with the rabbit division of the Whatcom County Youth Fair both Friday and Saturday all day April 11th and 12th! So that kept me plenty busy!

I can't wait for the monroe show. Buns are looking cuter everyday, and I can't wait to put the M an' M's Frida and Rolling Hill's MacKay litters on the table. They are looking sooooooo cute!

Yakima Entries and Babies!

Well just like the title says, Yakima entires went in this past Wednesday, and new babies were born over the course of the week.

Bunnies in the Box's Sophie X ____'s Jasper had 2 blue martens/otters and one peanut on April 1st...APRIL FOOLS.....no really she had babies...LOL...

M an' M's Daffodil X RM's Grasshopper had 2 DOA and 1 Smoke Pearl Marten and one Smoke Pearl on April 3rd.

So four new babies total, they are doing well!

In a few weeks there is going to be babies just EVERYWHERE popping out of the nestboxes. I can hardly keep M an' M's Frida and Rolling Hill's Mackay's litters in and they will be out soon enough!

As for Yakima Entires heres the list. Not too many since Alicia is going to be taking them down for me to show, and there just isn't a ton in condition right now.

UPDATE: Bunnies in the Box's Sophie is in the process of kindling today April 1st at 10:30 am. So hopefully all goes well.

Weather. Well it was quite the Crazy weather this past weekend. From sun and rain to snow and sleat! We ended up getting a good 3-4 inches on Friday! Everyone was baffled since it was almost APRIL! The COLD weather brought on some hardships thats for sure. I ended up loosing 2 Standard Chinchilla kits out of Hutchin's 051's litter, and as I stated earlier, 1 Jersey Wooly out of M an' M's Coconut's litter. BUMMER! Oh well, it happens though!

SNOW!

So also, another huge topic! FEED! So I am not sure if you have heard about this, but there has been a huge discussion on the Northwest Reporter Yahoo Group about it. ....Its about Pfaus Feed. Particularly, lots 801102, and 081102. Numerous breeders have been loosing animals, while feeding these lots. The feed has been tested and came back with low levels of mold toxin. So Pfaus has finally begun to take action! Pfaus is trying as fast as it possibly can to get these feed lots out of the market and sent back to the mill. In the mean time, distributors of Pfaus are still selling it to the feed stores, thus that is how I ended up with some of it. (More about that later) Anyways, Pfaus believes that the root cause of the problem was due to some moldy grain that ended up in that batch. They are currently working on getting the feed out of stores and replacing it with good feed. So at least they are taking some action. Pfaus has sent samples of the feed in to be tested and it will be another 3 weeks before the results are in. In the mean time we wait...

OK, so heres the scoop about me getting some the this "bad feed". So when the whole thing started coming about, with this feed issue and these lot numbers, I checked the bags of my feed that I currently had. They were no where near the numbers affected. So I thought that I was clear. But when I went to the feed store, Laurel Farm and Western Supply, who sells Pfaus, I forgot to check those lot numbers. And of course I ended up with lot 801102 Rabbit Pellets. Not knowing that I had the "bad feed" I begun feeding it. Immediately after the Kennewick, WA show March 15th (a couple days after I started feeding the 801102 lot), I noticed that one of my rabbit would not eat any pellets. He became deathly skinny as with all of my other rabbits started to drop condition. My rabbits were only picking through the pellets and scratching most of it out, which is very unlike them....they love their Pfaus. So anyways, Karli was having the same problem. The only thing different was that her animals were out of condition before she started feeding the 801192 lot. Thus, her animals started only picking at their food and not eating hardly anything. Plus loosing mega condition. So Karli and I tried everything. We got everyone up to date on Ivomec, for parasites, we went through 2 whole rounds of coccidiosis treatment, thinking that it might have been that, then we tried treatments for enteritsis, still the animals were not gaining condition. Almost all of my jersey wooly juniors chewed off their coats, due to them having a lack of protein in their diet. Also most of my animals had stopped eating pellets entirely and the only reason why they were alive was because Karli and I were feeding mega supplements...since that was all they would eat. Each animal had its own dish of oats, in addition to pellets, and a bunch of other stuff. But still animals kept loosing condition. Some of my animals were so dealthy skinny that I almost puked every time I felt their spines to see if they had gained any body weight. It was really bad. During this time, one of Karli's favorite rabbits, a buck named Logan passed away, he had typical symptoms of mold toxicity, and it must have been the feed that put him over the edge.

So one night someone posts on the Northwest Reporter and says that those particular lots are still being sold at the feed stores. Then it finally clicks...I run out to the barn and check my the lot numbers on my feed...I got a sick feeling in my stomach...but I knew that I had to get that feed out of their cages as fast as possible, since the more toxin they got in them, the more sickly they would get. I immediately started ripping feeders out of the cages and dumping a good 20lbs of feed in the trash. That night everyone got just oats and butt loads of hay.

The next morning I notified everyone that I knew that fed Pfaus in the area. Alicia and Alivia Kennemer ended up loosing M an' M's Mystery due to the feed. And a few other breeders had noticed problems. Luckily when I called up Laurel Farm and Western Supply, they were more then willing to take back the bags and exchange them for the other lot number(not any of the ones in question). They were just as concerned about our animals as we were, and I really appreciated that. I have heard that some feed stores were willing to switch lots with people, but they just turned around and sold the bad feed to the next unlucky person. That is not a way to do business! Laurel Farm and Western Supply were even exchanging open bags of feed for new ones of a different lot number. They are truly good people with a business that cares about it's customers and their animals!

So far Pfaus's first priorities are to get the bad feed off the market and returned to the mill, and also to get the feed stores replacement good feed. Once the test results are in then they said that they would consider damages that have occurred to people's stock due to the bad feed. Anyways, it was a big mess, but even though it happened I will still continue to feed Pfaus since it is a great feed. Every feed has their problems once in a while, it just happens. Thus, I would highly recommend you stay with Pfaus even after this mistake, since the pellets are very high quality and are very reasonably priced.

Anyways, I got some new feed at Laurel yesterday and animals that had stopped eating completely began to nibble at the Pfaus, so that gives a big sigh of relief. But that still doesn't fix the problems of me having does abandon their litters due to them trying to insure their own survival because their are so skinny. And those does are now having issues with mastitis....oh well. It'll all work out eventually. Luckily my rabbits were smart enough to not eat the bad feed, or I am sure that I would have lost numerous animals, like many other breeders. But even so, many of my animals are in really poor condition, so we will see what happens.

I'll update you on the bun's condition as I hope it improves!

MORE BABIES!

YEA!

MORE BABIES WERE KINDLED YESTERDAY!

Hutchin's 051 X DC'z Zel Kits were born! 7 total, one being DOA, another very cold when I found it. Although I was able to bring it around and it is doing just fine now...so 6 more chin babies...yea!

The current bun count including all the little guys in the boxes is 42. Much lower than I usually like...a comfortable range is between 55-65 at least! LOL...

Anyways, more kits should be born later this week.

I am still waiting on Kotton Tale's Misty who should be kindling any day now...she has pulled lots of hair and is sitting in her box...but no babies yet...

And the 4 wooly girls due on the 30th received their boxes today. M an' M's Daffodil immediately started nesting, but she always nests nearly a week early...so at least I know she is going to kindle...Bunnies in the Box's Sophie, M an' M's Ashlind and M an' M 's Coconut are also due on the 30th and took some interest in their boxes.

Anyways, lets hope for babies. Alicia is going to come over on Friday and do some palpating on them to make sure...

Rabbitry Updates and Does Kindling Soon!

Ok, so a few updates on the buns.

Everyone is moulting! That heat wave this past weekend caused almost the entire barn to blow...except for a few that I really wanted them to get some new coats! LOL Anyways, besides that, all of the babies from the kindling 8 days ago are doing great including the other 2 foster kits from Alicia and Alivia.

Also, if one doe to buck sex change wasn't enough of a surprise last week at the Kennewick show, I had another happen today! Shrimp as I call "her", a very small pointed white-black doe was weaned from her mom Kotton Tale's Misty today, because Misty is going to be kindling soon. Well I guess I wouldn't really call it weaning, since Shrimp has not been nursing from Misty since she was only 3 weeks old....hints why she is so small (she is now 16 weeks old). Anyways, I took her out to put her in her new cage and I noticed something that looked a bit peculiar. It was testicles! So depending on what the deal is with this new little buck...it may end up going to Kim Posey...but we will see.

Now kindling news....M an' M Rabbitry has 2 does due on March 28th.

Kits and Kennewick.

Well now that all the buns and I are rested and all settled in from the Kennewick show I finally have time to write about the big weekend.

I have to admit the drive to Kennewick was pretty long! The weather on the drive down to Kennewick on friday evening was crazy. Overcast to pouring to sunny with a rainbow to drizzling to snowing and all of them repeated a few times. But me and the buns all made it the whole 5 hours. Whoa! The buns spent the night in the car and I stayed at the Clover Island Inn. My room was fairly priced for the amenities that I got. Cheap rooms are my liking...LOL..Saturday on the other hand started early with the showroom opening at 6:00 am. It was a great facility! Loved the concrete floors, all 15,000 square feet of it...nice and roomy!

At the show I was able to get to see many good friends and fellow breeders, along with some individuals who I met for the first time.

To name a few, it was great chatting with Becky and her son (I hope you like M an' M's Chairry!), Claire, Miranda, Karrie, and a bunch of other wonderful people whose names currently evade my brain!

Anyways, lets get to the wins. OK, so first for chins. In show A there were 5 chins, 4 exhibitors. Nancy Baskett's senior doe took BOB under Floyd Rudoulph. In show B there were only 4 chins, 3 exhibitors, so sadly my animals did not get legs even though they took BOB and BOSB under Cindy Wickizer. Oh well! Better luck next time.

M an' M's Mistro, a standard chinchilla junior buck was sold at the show to a lovely family and 4-H girl who wants to show him. She was so delighted that he already had one leg. Anyways, hopefully she will eventually want a doe to begin raising standard chinchillas!

Ok, so now for the woolies.

Well, for Show A and B there were both about 22 woolies. In show A M an' M's Miss-D-fy took BOG Self and Best of Breed. M an' M's Kandice, the little chin doe was Linda Bell's close second for Best of Breed. What good news! M an' M's Zane took BOG Tan Pattern and also Best Opposite Sex of Breed.

So M an' M Rabbitry animals took Both BOB and BOSB Show A for Jersey Woolies. *And M an' M's Zane broke the record for having the most legs won by a M an' M rabbit.* His current leg count it 8!

Show B was also quite interesting. Of course M an' M's Miss-D-fy was again in the running for Best of Breed with all of *her* wool. But we ran into a bit of a glitch in the choosing of BOB and BOSB process in Show B with Judge Floyd Rudolph. The problem was.....was that my cute little Miss-D-fy was a Mr-D-fy...Yeah truly. He has gone through 3 shows as a "she" and none of the judges noticed. Anyways, because of this little boo boo, M an' M's Miss-D-fy was DQed. But because the most beautiful rabbit was DQed on the table, the judge had to choose a new Best of Breed. This new best of breed and best opposite sex of breed were both M an' M animals....Yea! M an' M's Melodrama got his 3rd leg for Best of Breed Jersey Wooly (I kind of need to get him registered now...LOL). And M an' M's Star-Struck won Best Opposite Sex of breed getting her 2nd leg!

So M an' M Rabbitry Jersey Woolies took BOB and BOSB for both show A and B at the Tri Cities RBA!

Way to go M an' M animals!

OK WOW I DIDN"T REALIZE THIS POST WAS GOING TO BE THIS LONG...WE ARE ONLY HALF WAY THROUGH!

So now on to the kits news.

NEW BABIES WERE BORN TODAY!

Ok, so here is a quick little synopsis.

Because it has been pretty chilly outside and the does were nesting beside their nestboxes. I decided that I needed to bring all 4 does in that were due on the 16th, so that if they did have their kits on the wire, that they wouldn't freeze to death, like some kits did earlier this winter.

Anyways, so I brought all 4 doe's cages into my bedroom, so that it would be easy for my mother and sister to check on them to make sure they are doing ok.

None of the does ended up kindling while I was gone, but its better to be safe then sorry! The first doe to kindle today, March 16th was M an' M's Frida. She had 4 healthy kits that she is raising just great! And she had them in her box...what a good girl!

Rolling Hill's MacKay was the second doe to kindle today and made her nest on the wire, had the kits on the wire. Oh well. She had 4 kits, all which were alive. There was 2 normal kits and then 2 peanuts. I will get pics of the kits and peanuts, since I haven't done a blog post on peanuts yet, or have taken any pics of comparing a peanut to a normal sized kit.

Note the size difference, and how pudgy the sides of the normal are compared to the peanut. This is because the peanut has not nursed, whereas the normal has. Peanuts typically have no desire to nurse, and usually do not survive even when you try to hand feed them.

Notice the pinched hindquarters of the peanut kit compared to the wide hindquarters of the normal kit. This difference is an easy way to tell the kits apart, if the size doesn't give it away.

Anyways, FT's Canadian Mist continues to nest every few hours and has only be building her nests on outsider her nestbox so she will most likely kindle on the wire too. *UPDATE* FT's Canadian Mist kindled on March 17th. She had one kit which did not survive. She will be rebred in hopes of getting some more beautiful babies.

NOT ANOTHER SATIN!

Ok, so since the M an' M Rabbitry blog is fairly new, there has yet to be a post about these terrible Satin Standard Chinchillas that I keep on getting. They are quite interesting. Somewhere along the line, someone must have bred a satin into the standard chinchillas that I have. I know that it is more than 6 generations ago, but this specific combination of DC's DC2 and DC's Zel always produces satin standard chinchillas, along with some normal ones. In previous litters I have only had one satin per litter. Whereas this current litter has at least 2, possibly 3.

It has been fairly easy to sell the satin ones as pets and all, but it still is a bummer, because the satin ones always seem to be the nicest of the bunch. I think this time around I am going to try and show them as satins. Just this once to see what the judges think...LOL...

Anyways, here is a picture showing the difference between one of the satin standard chinchilla kits and a normal standard chinchilla kit.

You can easily see how much darker the satin standard chinchilla kit is compared to the normal standard chinchilla kit. Also you can notice how there is a sheen or extreme luster to the satin kit's coat. The satin's coat is much more shinny in English terms. Its very interesting how these kits magically come out of that one combo. Since they have never appeared in any of the doe's sister's litters when she was bred to the exact same buck...Weird huh?

Anyways, I am sure that I will post pictures of them as they continue to grow...and maybe pictures of them on the show tables with hopefully good results...LOL..

I might Actually have some Kits!

So just a few minutes ago I put boxes in for M an' M's Frida, FT's Canadian Mist, Rolling Hill's MacKay and DC's DC1. I was so surprised when two the does begin to nest immediately. I was almost going to wait until tomorrow to put the boxes in, but I am glad I didn't.

M an' M's Frida begin to nest as soon as I put her box in. She was pretty cute as she made a mess of her cage will all of that hay stuffed in her mouth. I had a video of her nesting, but for some reason photobucket wouldn't let me upload it...oh well

FT's Canadian Mist also begin nesting when I put her box in. Here is a little video of her

And of course as usual. Rolling Hill's MacKay shows absolutely no interest in nesting. Here is a little vid of her being cute and daintily eating her hay.

DC's DC1 decided to just sit around in her box. So I didn't think that would make for a very interesting video...LOL.

Anyways, I hope that everyone ends up kindling on the 16th. I really hope that they can either have them before I leave for the Kennewick show on Friday, or wait until after I get home on Saturday. But as usual, that will never happen. So lets all wish them luck on their kindling this weekend. I have my fingers crossed!

So when I went out this morning to check on the girls. All of the jersey wooly does that were due had made nests beside their nestboxes....and not in their nestboxes....So I put all of their hay back into their boxes and lets just hope that they get it right this time! LOL

ERBA Show and Other Bun News

Well, the buns are all back and settled in again from the Evergreen Rabbit Breeders Show in Chehalis WA, on March 8th.

Let me tell you, the show super and secretary did a very good job at trying to fit 1100 rabbits and people and show equipment into a tiny show room. The showroom was only 120 X 60 ft! Yeah we were all very cramped, but we worked it out and it was overall a really great show.

Numbers for woolies weren't too bad. There was about 25 in both open shows. Also, there was virtually no chins. Just my 2 and then another senior doe of Nancy Baskett. So no legs for chins even though my did take BOB and BOSB both shows.

Woolies on the other hand were surprising.

Show A:

M an' M's Star-Struck, smoke pearl marten junior doe took BOG Tan Pattern and got her first leg

M an' M's Zane, sable marten senior buck took BOSG Tan Pattern and got his 7th leg.

M an' M's Miss-D-fy, ruby eyed white junior doe took BOG Self, and BOB and got her first leg at only 9 weeks old! She has got some wool...there is no denying that!

Also, M an' M's Crazy Town, chestnut senior buck owned by Becky took BOSB and got his first leg! Gosh he has really grown up cute!

Show B:

M an' M's Dinky, sable marten junior buck (brother to Miss-D-fy) took BOG Tan Pattern and BOSB and got his first leg.

So three of my juniors all ended up getting their first legs, 2 of them at only 9 weeks of age.

Came home with 4 legs. Not bad in my opinion.

Anyways, as for babies...M an' M's Ashlind's are doing well. Of course they are still with at Karli's with one of her fuzzy lop does. I will have to have her look at them to see if they are otters or martens. Or I will just check later this week when I head over to grab buns for the Kennewick show. Which it looks like I will be heading to alone...Since it is Karli's birthday and she is having a party...Regardless, there is a black and a blue tan pattern. So I am super excited to see how they are maturing in the future. I hope that they will be absolutely adorable like M an' M's Ashlind is and WWR's Peewee is!

Chin babies are also doing well. All 5 of them. So that is also very good.

Anyways the Kennewick show is going to be here before I know it...so I have to keep buns in condition! Plus I have M an' M's Chairry, a blue junior doe out of M an' M's Frida X WWR's Peewee cross going to Becky Sago and her son in Montana. So it will be tons of fun to meet up with them and see their cute tort buck Copper.

Also, I just thought that I would add, that M an' M's Ashlind and M an' M's Zane are now tied for having the most legs ever won by an M an' M rabbit. That number is 7 legs. Lets hope that Zane can break the record at this next show in Kennewick.

I have chin babies!

I was just about to give up on DC2 kindling. Since she was due on the 3rd. But I kept the box in there and just a few minutes ago she kindled 5 kits! YEA! I am so proud.....they were well worth the wait!

Lets just hope everything goes well and she takes care of them fine.

I will post a picture of them tomorrow once they are all cleaned off and such.

YEA! I am just too excited!

Early this Week Kindling...or Lack of...

So yep, I had 4 Jersey Wooly does due on the 24th. And to no suprise, only one kindled on the 24th. That was my darling Ashlind! Ashlind had 5 kits, 2 peanuts, one fader who wouldn't nurse and 2 normal kits a black and a blue otter or marten (can't tell which yet). Anyways, so the story began when Ashlind would not make a nest inside her box. I just knew that she was going to kindle outside the box on the wire, so I decided to do something about it in order to keep the kits from freezing. So I set up a heat lamp above the cage and spread a pretty thick layer of hay over the entire floor or the cage. I went inside the house and the next time I came out, Ashlind had pulled tons of hair and made a nest for the 5 kits in the corner of the cage and she kindled them all right there. That doesn't mean that they were there when I found them, but all were warm and none of them froze! So I fixed up a nest in her nestbox and put them in the box.

All was going well, she was going in the nestbox to check on them and she knew they were there. But on the second day, the kits were looking a bit skinny. I tried milking Ashlind and there was barely anything there, so I called up Karli and luckily she had a doe that had just kindled the night before. I brought the kits over to Karli's and fostered them to her doe Dora. Of course we had fun feeding the woolies and milking Dora so that we could refrigerate the milk for the next day if the woolies needed an extra boost. But yep...it was pretty fun I must admit. Milking a rabbit is no easy feat!

So Coconut, Sophie and Daffodil still hadn't kindled by the 34th day. So at this point I was ready to rebreed them. Coconut took well again to Leapin's Eclispe. Sophie was not wanting to be bred at all, so I would have to wait until the next day to breed her. Daffodil also did not want to be bred. And since Ashlind didn't have a litter anymore, I ended up breeding her.

I borrowed two bucks from Alicia Kennemer to do some breedings with them. A broken smoke pearl buck and a black otter buck. I decided to breed the broken smoke pearl buck to Ashlind because she needs a bit more of the underwool in her coat, and that broken has got it! Also, since she is out of a smoke pearl marten, I hope to bring that out with this breeding. So that was yesterday, I got M an' M's Coconut and M an' M's Ashlind bred again.

Today...well that is a bit of a story too!

A few things happened today.

I got Bunnies in the Box's Sophie bred to Alicia's otter buck. I hope to get some nice martens or otters out of it!

My grand parents are also over from Eastern Washington to celebrate my sister's birthday, which was today. But them being wood people. I got out all of my scraps of plywood and had them make me some more nestboxes. I am always short on nestboxes, but not now! They made me 8 more wooly boxes...I think that will do for a while!

Also, about a week ago Alicia palpated M an' M's Daffodil and said that she felt babies in there, and she was right. Although it was day 35 today. She started kindling around 6 pm. She had one GIANT kit...and that was it. So I hope to rebreed her in the next couple of days...I haven't decided who to breed her to yet!

I got show reports back from VIRBA today. I got M an' M's Melodrama's 2nd leg and M an' M's Bebop's 3rd Leg. I am sending in for his Grand Champion certificate tomorrow.

News in All Forms: Good and Bad

Lets start with the good...

Well Alicia took the time to palpate a few of my does the other day...since I can't palpate! She had said that Ashlind and Daffodil were indeed pregnant, whereas a few others she didn't think they were.

Anyways, Ashlind was being a dork as usual and I shot some pics and a little movie of her deciding where to make her nest.

I will surely be posting earlier next week about how the kindling on the 24th went!

Now for the bad news...

It was quite odd when I went into the barn today. All the buns seemed fine and happy, but I noticed something in Kotton Tale's Misty's tray. It almost looked like a placenta, but I could tell it was more formed then that. I pulled out the tray and to my surprise, she had aborted her litter!

I found two kits in the tray along with what looked like a placenta. The kits weren't to be born until March 3rd, so they were pretty tiny and nearly two weeks early. I have never had a doe abort her litter before. Usually they do this due to stress related reasons, or if something is wrong with the kits themselves. I wonder if Misty felt uncomfortable during the last weekend when I was at VIRBA and got stressed out? I do have to admit, I did take her kits way right as I left for the weekend, so that could have done it...anyways...it looks like I am going to try and breed her again along with one of my chin does later today. Some pics of the kits are below...

VIRBA--Good Times

Well, now that me and the buns are back from VIRBA most things have returned to normal.

First of all, it was great getting to meet Kim and Christina, Kathy, Kelsey, Amanda, and all of the other great people who were at the show.

I didn't feel out of place for even a moment. It was a great experience and tons of time to chat. LOL

Another highlight of VIRBA was getting the opinion of John Grimm and Manuel Hidalgo on my woolies. Although Manuel's judging style was a bit different from what I was used to it was still a great time. I am excited for John Grimm to judge at this year's WA State Convention. I hope that he will be able to take a look at some of my chins the next time he is at a show that I am.

I also got Judy to change Sophie's Registration color. Since she was registered incorrectly, so now i just need to get about 8 registration reprints and all will be fine.

As for show wins. They were actually a bit sparse this time around. I have to admit that Kim did get some pretty nice stock from her acquisition of Laura's herd. Jentle's Hero pulled out wins in both shows for her. He looked great and was in very nice condition.

As for my rabbitry wins. I only brought woolies to show. I just didn't have enough room to bring any chins...my car was packed...(see pictures below)...Anyways, here the the scoop

Saturday Show:

Melodrama got his 2nd leg for BOG Tan Pattern

Bebop got BOSG Shaded (I am not sure if there were enough exhibitors in order to get a leg for this one....so I'll have to do an update post when I get the show report, I think there was, but I'll have to double check)

Sunday Show:

Bebop got his 3rd leg for BOG Shaded Yea!

Because the buns took up the entire back seat, and I had carriers in the trunk. This carrier and little dwarf had to ride up to VIRBA in the front seat.

Buns on the right and buns on the left...there was not space for another single rabbit in the back seat!

My Car...more and more buns....they were stuffed in every spot possible! The sheet was over the buns to make them feel just a bit more comfortable on the trip.

My VERY full trunk with Cavy and Rabbit Carriers!

Although it was quite expensive going up for the ferry and the 2 night hotel stay. It was still fun and a very relaxing show.

The Difference between an old buck and a new one

Well, the title pretty much sets the stage for what this post is all about.

Thursday, Feb 14th I was packing up everything and getting bunnies groomed for their trip to VIRBA on Friday. I knew I needed to get a few does bred again, since their kits were getting almost ready to wean...and those chins have been quite reluctant to breed lately. Anyways, Alicia brought over her broken senior and her self junior for me to take up to the show. Alicia and I had been conversing over e-mail about possibly using her broken buck with one of my does. I had tried the combination once before, but I really wanted to retain both the body and the wool that this broken had on the kits. So when he came over...I put him and a few of my other bucks to work.

I ended up doing the following combinations. They should be due March 16th or so.

M an' M's Frida X Alicia's Broken Buck (His name currently evades me)

Rolling Hill's MacKay X M an' M's Zane

FT's Canadian Mist X M an' M's Melodrama

DC's DC1 X DC's Zel

So here is where the title of this post comes in.

I was able to get the Broken Buck to service Frida 5 times over the time period that I was out cleaning carries and packing the car and such.

Zane serviced MacKay also 4 times

Zel service DC1 only 1 time (he is almost 5 years old)

But here is the real kicker....Melodrama serviced Canadian Mist 11 times! He was one day off of being a senior. There is a significant difference between a 5 year old buck and a 6 month old buck. AND wow was it a difference!

If Canadian Mist does not have kits I will be completely amazed!

I always write up a card like this one for every time that I breed does. That way when I completely forget who was bred to whom and what day they are due on, I can refer back to it. Each check mark indicates a successful service.

VIRBA I Just Can't Wait!

Well, entries went in for VIRBA. I am just ready to burst...its going to be so exciting to see how my animals do up in Canada, against woolies that I have never seen or met. Plus I finally get to meet Kim and Christina, and few other Canadian wooly breeders. Its going to be an expensive trip...thats for sure...but worth it! Just for the ferry ride it is about $45 one way...eeeeek and a hotel for 2 nights, another $100. Yowch!

Oh well, it is going to be a blast though!

More Bun Pics, and Hopefully Some Website Updates

Yep, just like the title says, got out and took some more pics of a few buns that weren't featured on the website.

I really need to overhaul all of my chin pics. I think I need to get Karli over here so that we can take pics of all of those pesky chins. Its something about them, they just hate posing for a picture. But I did get a few of the chins to sit still enough for a picture or two.

M an' M's Zoli, beautiful doe, just turned senior. She is out of Hutchin's 052, my chin buck that passed away this last October. She is my baby.

This is M an' M's Mistro. Originally I wasn't planning on keeping him, because I didn't need another chin buck...but what do you know...now I do! ^_^ He was one of my Mini Chins that were a bit stunted in their growth, but he seems to be putting on the pounds now.

M an' M's Zipper, a cute little doe out of Hutchin's 052, the buck that passed away. She is a sucker to pose...I need to work with her a bit more on that, but she has all of the right stuff. I just don't need another doe. She is currently FOR SALE.

I also took some pictures of the two Kotton Tale's Misty X B-mac's Royal Flush kits. They are pretty cute also. Small and fluffy, but cute!

I also tried breeding a few chins today, but nothing would take. These chins have been very particular these past few months that I have been trying to breed them. Hopefully they will take in the next few days.

Kotton Tale's Misty was just the opposite. She was bred to Leapin's Eclipse. on January 31st. So early March, there should be some cute babies in her nestbox.

VIRBA is just around the corner and the buns are either putting on the coats or taking them off. Its gonna be a great show. Lots of fun, and I can't wait to meet a few more wooly breeders. Feel free to e-mail me if you plan on heading to the show. I would love to meet you and see your woolies!

Saint Helens, OR Show: Before and After

Well, its been quite busy with the buns and critters lately. Here is the news:

1. Due to the cold weather and one of my stinky birds knocking down the heat lamp, all but one of Sophie's litter and Coconut's kit froze to death. So now all that is left is a chinchilla kit. How sad...all my silver martens died! Oh well, just have to do some more breedings to get silver martens.

2. I finally got around to doing some breedings after the last batch of buns kindling and before some of my bucks left at the Saint Helens show. So on January 24th I bred:

M an' M's Coconut X Leapin's Eclipse, in hopes of getting something other than a Frosted Pearl Marten!

M an' M's Daffodil X Leapin's Eclipse, a repeate breeding to produce another Ashlind ^_^

M an' M's Ashlind X WWR's Peewee, in hopes of getting some Otters!

Bunnies in the Box's Sophie X Sugar Creek's Pizza Roll, in hopes of getting some more Silver Martens.

3. Well, Friday the 25th, was an eventful day. Karli and I made our trip down to Astoria to pick up another 2 condos for her buns and eventually to the show room in Saint Helens to set up. On the way there we dropped off a pair of peruvian cavies, and a black otter jersey wooly junior buck. Once we had finally gotten to the showroom, not to mention it was pretty cold out, we unloaded as quick as possible and headed to my aunt's house for the night. But we weren't ready to hit the hay yet. We only had another 15 rabbits to tattoo. LOL. I think we have finally gotten a hang of the clamp tattooer that I bought about 5 months ago...all of the tattoos came out perfect! We were very delighted.

So the day of the show came. It was nice and warm in the show room. Yea Heat! As the show progressed the icicles on the bushes outside the building continued to get longer and longer, the weather was surely acting up. As for the show, it was a blast! I was so happy to meet so many new Jersey Wooly rabbit breeders. In show A there was 54 Jersey Woolies! WOW. There was enough woolies in each group so that the BOG animals each got a leg. It was great! In show B there was 59! The only thing that bummed me out was that there was no comment cards! And several of my juniors I brought to get comments on. So it was difficult trying to listen to everything and put animals on the table...Oh well.

As of what I know here are a few of my buns that got legs. I expect to get a few others in the mail that I didn't get to listen to on a few juniors. Anyways, here is what I know:

It looks like Scott W., an Oregon Standard Chinchilla breeder and judge, loves my chins! Yea! I am pretty sure that we will be swapping some stock sooner than later. I got both BOB and BOSB in both shows...so hopefully some more legs for my critters. I will just have to wait and see what comes in the mail.

5. When I got home from the show I came home to a few surprises! Well snow was one of them....and cute babies were another. Today, in the snow, I took pictures of some of the cute buns, and some new pics of some buns. So here they are.

WOW Already 14 days since my last post

Well, a lot has happened in the rabbitry over the last two weeks. Heres the scoop!

1. Sophie kindled 3 kits, they are healthy and happy. I can't wait to see what colors they are...they are either martens or agoutis....pray for martens!

2. Coconut kindled, sadly only one of 5 kits is currently alive..the biggest bummer of them all is that the one kit that survived is a frosted pearl marten...Ashley e-mails Alicia "Do you want another frosted pearl marten?" LOL.

3. Wow, bun sales were going good until I got three e-mails back from people within a ten minute time period today saying that they weren't ready for the buns! Eeeeeek! Well, I guess those buns will need to find new homes!

4. So yes, plenty of buns for sale. Here is a quick list:

7. Oh yeah, speaking of chins....well, the one doe that was due to kindle...decided not to kindle, so that was quite the bummer...I think I might need another chin buck...what do you say? Mine might be getting a little bit old for the breeding thing.

8. I went over to Kay'z Rabbitry to help Karli take some pics of her new buns for her website the other day. Some of the shots turned out great...Her buns look gorgeous! Click on the following links to see some of the pictures I took:

To Astoria and Back + A little Bunny News

Well, the trip to Astoria, OR didn't go as well as we had planned. Karl and I left at 7:30 am to go drop off her Great Grandma at the airport, and then her Grand parents at her Aunts house. Once in Puyallup we stopped at Leslie Hobb's Rabbitry and checked out her buns for a few good hours. What fun, she had some mighty cute dwarfs and hollands, and lionheads and fuzzies! Oh my I could have gone home with some! Anyways, we finally made it into Longview, WA at about 3:30 or so. Thats when we started having a little car trouble. We made it to Astoria and loaded up at Woody's Wabbits and thats when it happened. The Ford Escape's transmission began to slip. So after about 2 hours of sitting at gas station, getting rained on, hailed on, and now soaking wet along with some friendly Oregonians, luckily one was a mechanic, we were finally in a position to head out, and see how far we could make it limping back to Washington state. We had to stop a few times to let the car cool down, but we made it back to Ferndale, WA with a failing transmission and all! It was quite a long trip and Karli and I were ready to crash when we got to her place at 1:30 am. Too bad we still had to feed and water all the buns! Overall, it was a fun trip and kind of crazy at the same time!

Although, this doesn't really have a whole lot to do with M an' M Rabbitry...it sure has a lot to do with me! After sleeping over at Karlis, we got to work at about 10:00 am tearing down her chicken coop. It was a big job and took us over 6 hours. But we weren't done there. We moved her hay into a taller stack, and finally got to set up her new condos and clean up our huge mess in the barn. She now has 17 holes for her fuzzy lops. A step up from her 6 that she had before we made the trip to Astoria. Anyways, it was a fun day of work and it really showed when it was all said and done. Now I need to get doing the same clean up in my barn....Eeeeeek!

Finally for some bunny news. Jersey Wooly Rolling Hill's MacKay decided not to kindle, so she is going to be rebred. I haven't decided who to breed her to again at this point, but soon enough I'll know. I need to rebreed M an' M's Ashlind and then also two Standard Chinchilla does who weren't cooperating earlier this month. Also, M an' M's Frida is going to be bred and I'll have to check to see if anyone else is ready.

Well, that's it for the bun news. Hopefully I will get some of those new For Sale animals up on the website today and also put up some new pics of the new FT's Canadian Mist babies.

So here is the scoop. I signed up and designed the M an' M Rabbitry Blog last night. I wanted to break the ice and write up the first post, but I just couldn't think of anything that was happening in the rabbitry. Well that didn't last long! I actually have a few things so we will start with the most exciting and deadly!

1. Kindling Days: Three Jersey Wooly does are due January 4th, 2008. As usual, none of the does end up kindling exactly on the 4th! M an' M's Ashlind, a Blue Otter Jersey Wooly started kindling yesterday at about 5:00 pm. She was having a lot of trouble pushing the kit out...and my was it big! Sadly that kit was not alive by the time she birthed it. Around 5:40 pm she birthed another smaller kit with great ease, too bad that it was not alive either. I then left the barn for a while to go hang out with family for a few hours. At my return at about 9:00 pm I found that FT's Canadian Mist had kindled. She had one pointed kit and one sable marten kit. YEAH!

Now back to M an' M's Ashlind's drama. After checking on Candian Mist's kits, I checked on Ashlind. She was still continuing to have contractions. I went out to the barn every 30 minutes checking on her and still no kit. I stayed up until 4:00 am checking on her to see if she was going to push the kit out. No such luck, I woke up again at 6:30 am to check and again at 11:30 am. Still no signs of the kit, yet she continued to have contractions. I called up a few friends and got some ideas. One of the suggestions was to give her a gentle belly rub to try to push the kit back up into the abdominal cavity in order to allow her to rebirth it. So I gave her a belly rub for about 5 minutes and then checked her again in 20 minutes and sure enough, feet! The kit had finally gotten into a position were the contractions could push it out. Over the next 2 hours I worked with Ashlind, gently pulling on the kit until it finally came out. YEAH! The placenta was soon to follow and luckily the contractions stopped and Ashlind was finally in the clear. WOW that was a very intense 22 hours! Ashlind being one of my favorite Jersey Woolies and being named after myself, it was very stressful to have this happen to her.

Anyways, now that everyone is back to normal and is healthy and happy, the only Jersey Wooly left to kindle is Rolling Hill's MacKay. Hopefully she will have a healthy litter.

2. M an' M Rabbitry HAS TONS OF ANIMALS FOR SALE. I went through the barn today and counted for sale signs on animals. WOW what a number! A whopping 17 animals! Eeeeek! We are running out of cage space fast...these juniors need to go! Check out the FOR SALE page to see buns that need to go. We have both Jersey Woolies and Standard Chinchillas currently available.

3. Karli and I have decided to go down to Woody's Wabbits a rabbit equipment dealer. They are located in Astoria, OR, so we have a long drive ahead of us tomorrow. On the way Karli and I will be picking up some fuzzy lops for Karli from Leslie Hobbs and hopefully dropping off M an' M's Crazy Town, a chestnut junior buck Jersey Wooly and another broken opal Jersey Wooly buck to Becky McCall in Silverton, OR. Plus picking up a few condos for Karli at Woody's and some E-Z Crocks for me! Its gonna be a long day tomorrow. Its a 5 hour drive down to Astoria and another 5 hours back.!

Anyways, everyone is holding on here at M an' M Rabbitry. Hopefully there will be an upcomming post about Rolling Hill's MacKay's litter.
